When You Need to Be Specific in Prayer like Hannah

My fellow blogger, Stephanie over at Read Cook Devour, has a new bible study out called Undivided: A Study in 1 Samuel.  We can learn a lot by reading and studying 1 Samuel,– prayer is just one of those things we can learn about.  Be sure to read all the way through the post to learn more Stephanie’s study!

So, friend, earlier in the week my Mom and I were discussing a situation that needs some prayer.

Now, if you know anything at all about prayer and how God works, sometime’s He’ll answer your prayer in a way that you don’t necessarily expect Him to.

Mom mentioned that when we pray for this situation, we need to be very specific in how we phrase our request when taking it to the throne of God.

Honestly, I had to giggle a little bit.  Her words basically reinforced exactly what I’ve been learning about in my study of 1 Samuel.

Feeling weak? Find your strength in the Lord.

Hey, friend.  Welcome back to the new and improved site!  Please bear with me as I continue to figure out the new features.  Blogging is hard, y’all.  Thank goodness I can find strength in the Lord to continue on!  🙂

So, anyway.  If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you know I like to do a thing I call #FavoriteFriday.   Yep, you guessed it.  I like to post scripture that’s had an impact on me on Fridays.  Sometimes, the scriptures I post on those days are in the Top All Time Favorite category.  Other times, it’ll be a scripture I read during the week’s Bible reading that just really stuck out to me and made me think.  (Shameless plug here, be sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to catch my #FavoriteFriday!)

A Lesson: Consider Your Ways

Have you ever noticed that the smallest of things make the biggest difference?  You know, like if you hurt your pinky toe and then you have to hobble for a few days?  Or if you leave out the peanut butter from a batch of preacher cookies and then you’re only left with chocolate covered oats?  (Yeah, it’s gross.  Just trust me on this one, y’all.)  Makes you stop and consider your ways, doesn’t it?

It’s kind of the same way with the books of the minor prophets in the Bible.  Sometimes those books are overlooked because, well, because they’re small.  Some of them are only a few short chapters.  But, oh man, do those books pack a powerful punch!

A few days ago I was spending some time reading Haggai.  To be honest, I’m guilty of overlooking the smaller books.  Sometimes the what-could-these-teeny-tiny-books-have-to-say-that-the-more-popular-books-haven’t-already-said? thought runs through my mind a little too hard and too fast and I just skip onto something bigger.  Well, y’all, it turns out the minor prophets have a lot to say about stuff.  Stuff that is still relevant to a Christian’s walk today.
