If you’ve been browsing around the blog for a while, you’ll know that I liked to read YouVerison’s devotionals when I dry my hair. YouVersion has a devotional for just about every topic you can think of. Want to start a “read the Bible in a year” (or half a year)? Well, YouVersion has you covered on that, too. They’re basically a one stop shop.

Now that I have a fancy-dancy Dyson hair dryer, my drying time is cut in half. But, I still have plenty of time to start my day with a devotion and God’s word while getting my hair dry.

Lately, I have been reading Harmony Grillo’s devotion, Dreams Redeemed. I’ll be honest, when I pick a devotion to read on YouVersion, I usually read the first day’s devotion before starting the plan. You know, just to see if I like it.

But, not with this one.

Fiery Darts and the Armor of God

So, as kid and someone either preached on the armor of God or taught a lesson on it, I thought they were referring to actual armor.

You know, the silver armor you’d picture a Knight in Shining Armor wearing if he were to ride up on a white horse and save the day?

Yeah, I still picture that when I think about the armor of God.  Doesn’t help much that Mom did a lesson with her Sunday school kids where they learned what each piece of the armor of God means and represents.  Anddd they made their own set of armor.

Yep, the breastplate of righteousness was a foil turkey platter. Imagination, y’all, it’s a wonderful thing.  🙂

When God Says No

Friend, have you ever read a passage of scriptures and nothing jumped out at you, but the second (or third, or fourth?) time you read those same scriptures, a light bulb goes off or something touches your soul? It’s in those times you hear God speak directly to your soul.  Sometimes when reading scripture, that’s when God says no to your plans.  Or gives you a resounding yes.  Or He gives you something else entirely.

That’s been happening to me quite frequently.  I love when a light shines a little brighter or a little differently on a set of scriptures and the meaning becomes a little more clear when applied to a particular trial or situation.
I’ve gotten into the habit of reading Bible plans from the YouVersion Bible app on my phone while I dry my hair in the mornings before work. I wish I was kidding when I say that I spend a good twenty minutes with a hair dryer aimed at my head in the mornings.  You ladies with curly-bushy-long hair might know the struggle. It is all too real.
