Alright, y’all. Time for another post referencing a song. This time, Laura Story’s Blessings. Blessings in disguise, y’all, are the best blessings.
Do y’all ever wake up in the mornings with a song stuck in your head? You’ll be brushing your teeth or combing your hair and it seems like someone turned up the radio, but then you realize it’s just you singing the song that is on your heart?
I have a feeling most of you know what I’m talking about.
A few mornings ago, Laura Story’s Blessings was the song of the morning. I may or may not have attempted karaoke in the shower that morning…
Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops, what if Your healing comes through tears? What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near?
Everyday has a blessing within
Friend, there have been many times this song has blared through my radio on the way to work or back home from work and I’ve burst into tears praising Him.

Why?
Because His mercy is far greater than we could ever imagine and far greater than we deserve.
There have been many, many times I’ve been disappointed. Disappointed in people. Disappointed in missed opportunities.
But you know what? Those very same disappointments were the Lord’s blessings and protection in disguise.
Situations that looked hopeless brought salvation and a complete change of heart.
Some are blessings in disguise
Other things that I wanted and begged the Lord for, ended up being a potential pitfall and stumbling block the Lord spared me from.
The Lord has given me a resounding no time and time again when a door to a new path, or relationship, or even the opportunity to buy a car opened up. Sure, I was disappointed. Disappointed because my own plan stood at a standstill.
But, if I chose to walk down that path anyway, whatever that path may have been, and ignored the leading of the Lord, it is hard to tell what I would have faced or where I would have ended up. And who knows, the Lord very well may have saved me from a path of destruction.
I know, friend, it is hard to be in the midst of a situation and think, “Man, what a blessing this trial is!” or “My heart is broken in two and it’s a good thing!” I know. I’ve been there. At the time, it doesn’t feel like a blessing or a good thing at all. But, when it is all said and done, I bet you can look back, like I have, and realize what the Lord was preparing you for or protecting you from.
What if, friend, what if the trials of this life, the rain, the storms, the hardest nights, are Your mercies in disguise?
