Have you ever needed God to do a new thing in your life? But you can’t seem to let go of something holding you back?
I’ll be the first to answer, I have. I most definitely have.
If you’ve been in a similar spot in your life, it probably felt (or, maybe currently feels) like maybe the change you needed wasn’t coming. Maybe it felt like, you’d be in the rain cloud for the rest of your life and you’d never feel the sun on your face again.
You’d just be cold, miserable, and gloomy. Forever.
When things drag you down
Earlier in the week, my dear friend, Katherine, at Open to Grace, mailed me a sweet card and one of Jason Gray’s CD. I almost teared up when looking at the song list, because Gray’s Im Gonna Let it Go was on it.
Why the tears?
Well, friend, because of the wonderful reminder it gave me.
A few weeks ago, I was reading another YouVersion devotional (for the life of me, I can’t remember which one, although I do recall it was a Spanish one…). The devotional said something like, “If you want God to do a new thing in your life, you have to let go of what is weighing you down.”
Read that again and let it simmer a second, friend.
And the weight is too heavy
If you want God to do a new thing in your life, you have to let go of what is weighing you down.
You know, letting go can sometimes be a hard thing to do on your own.

Maybe you did something in your past, and while you’ve asked for forgiveness and it sometimes doesn’t bother you, the shame of it still haunts you when you least expect it.
Maybe someone deeply wounded you with their thoughtless and unkind words and when you forgive and push away the pain, something reminds you of it and the wounds are cut open again.
Or, maybe things have happened well beyond your control and you can’t seem to figure out why or what happened exactly, you just know there’s opposition in your life. An opposition that makes you exhausted trying to fight it. One that seems to gets worse the more you pray about it.
Let it go
Friend, whatever the situation, you have to give it completely to God and just let it go.
Somethings are too heavy for us to carry by ourselves, and let’s face it, we don’t have the solutions anyway. Only God has those.
But, before He can do a new thing, we have to surrender it unto Him and just simply let it go.
If you want God to do a new thing in your life, you have to let go of what is weighing you down. Click To TweetLet’s take a look at scripture for a second.
Isaiah 43:19 says, Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Instead of crawling (and possibly dying) under the weight of our burdens and trying to find a way out on our own, we must give those heavy things over to God. When you let go of what you’ve been carrying, you’ll suddenly find you’re free to hold on to God’s hand and let Him lead you out.
Out of the wilderness. To a refuge in the desert. To place without shame. And to a place with lasting forgiveness without opposition.
He can do it.
We just have to let it go and let Him work.
Shine bright, my friend. Remember, be like Elsa and let it go. 😉
